Dr. Ichak Adizes – Key Points

  • Systems contain subsystems and each subsystem needs different times to change and adapt to changes.
  • A sign that the system in the country is not efficient, is the people that leave countries. Measure, how many people want to come to your country vs. the ones that want to leave and you will now if the system is effective.
  • Macedonia doesn't need to industrialize itself because it doesn’t have a competitive advantage. Bigger countries like China would eat it for breakfast.
  • Make lemonade from lemons (added value) – to find the competitive advantage and to use country experience in hospitality and beautiful nature. To use nature and invest in green tourism, eco-tourism, is expensive.
  • The manifestation of being underdeveloped is that the economic conditions are inferior. The usual remedy is to give the country economic aid to stimulate economic activity.
  • To move a country from “underdeveloped” to “developing” requires energy—dedicated, focused energy—and anything that wastes the available fixed energy undermines the country’s ability to dedicate that energy to development.
  • There are four factors that waste energy which is necessary for building a sustainable, developed country
  • 1. Lack Of Social Integration Which Causes Conflicts, 2. Lack Of Entrepreneurial Spirit In The Local Population - Their Planning Processes And Expectations Are Long-Term 3. Lack Of Law And Order 4. Organized Religion

If Money Is Being Donated By Developed Countries, It Should Be Used To Help The Country Overcome Its Tribal, Religious, And Ethnic Conflicts—To Do Whatever Is Needed To Bring Tolerance, Mutual Trust, And Respect To The Warring Segments Of The Society. 2. Modify The Underdeveloped Country’s Educational System, To Teach Children Long-Range Thinking And Risk-Taking. Develop Entrepreneurial Spirit And Skills 3.   • Leaders have the task to integrate the system – to build and maintain healthy systems – produce results on most efficient way
  • Countries are facing brain drain, companies are facing lack of workforce – the countries must be prepared to overcome the xenophobia and import workers from Bangladesh and Philippines
  • Regional perspectives lay in cooperation and inter-connections but this requires mutual trust and respect in order to have peace, stability and synergy in the region.
  • Joint approach of WB countries would generate new quality and strength
  • The rule of law must involve a fight against crime and corruption – to achieve this we must build or find visionary leaders.

Mr. Reinhard Priebe – Key Points

  • EU is a club for countries to join with free will, but there are conditions to join this club
  • EU shows that is unreliable in terms of starting negotiation process because Macedonia resolved the name issue
  • To run reforms is good even before the start of the negotiation process because it would take less time to close chapters.
  • Optimism that WB countries have a future in EU and the accession process is not a problem only for WB countries but for Eu as well.
  • WB is not yet stabile and there is low economic development, but there is a certain improvement, yet these countries need to fight corruption

Mr. Goran Štrok – Key Points

  • Businesses and countries need to focus on competitive advantage (CA)
  • WB countries have tourism and natural beauties like CA.Macedonia has inherited beautiful nature and could invest In luxury green tourism
  • Agriculture and organic
  • There is a need for innovative solutions and diversified offers for the tourists. Even cross-country tourism should be developed that will promote the region
  • There are many opportunities that countries need to be able to use them

Mr. Svetozar Janevski – Key Points

  • The region faced dismantling of the system in the last 20 years. The deviation went so far that we are now facing non existing of any standards.
  • Macedonia is a country that people want to escape from. We are facing immigration and brain drain. The governments should make a social study and identify the real reasons for immigration. By answering the question - What is needed for the young citizens to build sustainable life in the country? To define special programs.
  • We should how can we build faster and better cohesion, but instead, there have been even greater differences and mistakes made which resulted in greater gap. Thus we need help from outside from the countries with more experience.
  • Corruption is in every pore of the society and omination of an individual within the parties for their own personal interest
  • Changes in the educational system. This can not be done on the surface, we have to make it from the bottom and make a system that will be accountable.
  • We should stop the tribal wars and focus on joint interests. Our mutual interest is EU integration, NATO, development, citizens’ well-being, economic development, and fighting poverty.
  • We have to create an added value, not only cheap labor. And to create a national product with added value. We can support the service industry but it doesn’t have a big added value. We need to provide higher productivity in the workforce.
  • We have to move away from being import based country that only exports cheap labor, as is the case with the free zones and the massively subsidized FDIs, which only generate 2% of GDP and 3% employment while owning 50% of the exports in the country. No added value.
  • What we need is an export-led growth, that incorporates more domestic components. We need to energize the entire value chain, to have real benefit for the less fortunate people, especially the ones living in the rural areas. One of the paths forwards is agriculture, which OECD has said is the sector that has 12% added value in the economy of the country and almost 25% of employment.
  • However, we need to modernize the agriculture sector, as it stands at the moment, we are not even competitive in the region. With 150 euros revenue per hectare, of course, there will be severe discontent among the villagers. We need to make changes and increase the opportunities for the young people and the ones living in the rural areas.
  • Additionally, we need to focus all our energies on renewables. We are seeing right now the energy crisis bubbling up. UK, France, and Germany are facing massive price increases in energy, especially now as the wintertime approaches. It most definitely will have a spillover effect in the region, especially in North Macedonia, a country with a 300 MW of energy deficit. We need to change the energy production law, which is not so friendly for private usage. And, we will need to de-bureaucratize the private investment in renewable.

  • We haven’t done our homework and still have a long way to go in out path towards EU.
  • Immediate set up of standards is needed in order to have competitive products and services on the foreign markets
  • FDIs are good for the economy but not in a way to use the cheap workforce and be subsidized. Home investors should be incentivized to invest as well.
  • Using domestic suppliers in the value chain is a prerequisite for faster economic development and defining the products and services with higher added value.
  • Evolution of our societies is needed – to be able to adapt to the changes in the world

He lectures in four languages, and is the author of 24 books that have been translated into 31 languages.In recognition of his contributions to management theory and practice, Dr. Adizes has received 21 honorary doctorates. He has advised prime ministers and government officials throughout the world, as well as corporate start-ups and members of the Fortune 100.

TOPIC:  What are the perspectives of the global politics and EU integration processes of WB countries?
 
Mr. Reinhard Priebe is retiredDirector from the European Commission and an experienced legal expert. He was the chair of the Senior Expert Group which published the rule of law reports for North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina at the initiative of the European Commission.
Mr. Priebe has a broad experience and renowned expertise in rule of law matters. He served as a judge at the Administrative Court in Stuttgart (Germany), including a 3 years secondment as assistant to the German Constitutional Court (Bundesverfassungsgericht). He has a 30 year experience asan official in the European Commission, working in the Directorates General of Agriculture, External Relations, Enlargement, Fisheries and Internal Security. As Director for the Western Balkans from 2001-2006, Mr. Priebe has gained significant insight on political situation of the WB countries. He still is working in the field of EU integration of the WB countries. He remains anconfidenton their European perspective, stating that, the intention of the new EU enlargement methodology is to improve and speed up the process of joining the EU, and not to cause delays and make things more complicated.
He is the author of many publications on European Law and constitutional law issues.

Zijad Bećirović, Ph.D.is an experienced International Specialist with a demonstrated history of working in the international affairs industry. Skilled in International Relations, Management, Policy Analysis, Public Relations, and Politics. He is an Ambassador of knowledge and an expert in Islamism, Judaism and intercultural communication.
He currently serves as director at the International Institute For Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES).The activities of the International institute IFIMES are especially directed towards the areas of international (foreign) politics and economy, international relations, counseling the governments, state institutions as well as the non-state actors such as the academia and corporate entities.
Living on the Balkans, knowing both political and economic challenges that governments and companies are facing, Mr.Becirovicis going to address the troubles that WB countries are facing in EU and NATO integrations. He is well aware of the progress that the WB countries are making on their way to EU, and more importantly what that progress poses as a new challenge and how to approach it.

Major events such as the COVID-19 crisis are always bringing big geo-political changes/ shatters. It has been proven that the countries facing more serious political crises, are battling the COVID pandemic much harder, leaving behind casualties. In spite of the ongoing COVID crises another question posed to the WB countries is how should the countries walk the path of progressive changes in order to position themselves as an innovative foreign investment attracters.

Mr. Goran Štrok is one of the world’s most prominent hospitality moguls and was the founder of the company Adriatic Luxury Hotels. His great entrepreneurial experience has brought innovation and profitability to a number of industries and sectors in the business world. Mr. Štrok is well known for setting cross-company standards for export and establishing foreign market entry strategies.
He has been living in the UK for more than 30 years where he worked as an independent consultant to business construction companies Davy McKee, Davy Corporation, Zimmer & Lurgi in Frankfurt, Thyssen in Dusseldorf, Foster Wheeler World Services in Reading and Lummus Crest in Paris, as well as the British construction companies Costain and Wimpey.
In 1994 he made the first step in the hotel and catering sector, which later became the company GS Hotels and Resorts. His investment and strategic approach in the early 2000s has initiated the development and premiumization of Croatian tourism and has been recognized by global media as NBC and Discovery Channel as the “pioneer of the transformation of Croatian Luxury Tourism”.

Elena Todorova is а graduatedeconomist and at the moment completing the Masters Studies in Finance, with special focus on Cyber Insurance at the University American College.

Nikola Mizo, Director of Profit Center Chemicals Cosmetics Botanicals is an experienced executive with a 20-year experience in the SEE region. His has a diverse carrier ranging from investment banking and corporate finance to FMCG and fine chemicals businesses.
After graduating with a double major in Political Science/International Relations and History from the American Univiersity in Bulgaria, he continued his education in London, UK, getting an MBA from Huron University – USA (currently Hult university) in 1999. 
Shortly after he joined the Investment banking division in HSBC – London where he worked on many different projects in the CEE region with a special focus on utility companies and telecoms.
After coming back to Macedonia, he joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in mid-2000  and led the Advisory Corporate Finance department of the firm in Skopje. During the period was involved in a number of due diligence, M&A, valuation and other projects in South-East Europe. He created the first public Macedonian Stock Exchange index in 2001 and led the first share swap project for a Fortune 500 company performed in Macedonia. In 2005 he became a country director for PricewaterhouseCoopers for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He joined Alkaloid AD Skopje in 2006 as Corporate development director and was involved in the divestment of the paints and varnishes business of the company in that year, as well as the choice and the implementation of a SAP ERP system for the company. Since 207 he has been a director of the Profit Center Chemicals, Cosmetics and Botanicals of Alkaloid.
Nikola heads three separate production and sales units within the company with diverse product lines sales channels and markets in multiple countries and regions and is responsible for well-known brands as Becutan and Good Nature.
He is also very much familiar with quality standards and market requirements and technological processes and needed for export and product placement on different markets and is constantly involved in the system improvements in the company.
He is fluent in Macedonian, English, Serbian and Bulgarian.

She introduced the design segment in the company by founding the brand Zavar Design with a main focus on designer radiators, unique heating objects with sculptural appearance where she combines technology and arts. Zavar Design in 2017 was listed among seven most influential design radiator brands and awarded by prestigious Best Innovative Design award by the American Society of Interior Designers ASID New York Metro. BIG SEE Design award in 2018, nomination for German Design Award in 2019 and German Design Award Winner in 2020 were following.

With over 20 years of work experience in project management, as well as design and process management, Vlatko Bezoski has gained over the years extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of logistics, international transport and global supply chains.
He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius University – Skopje in 2000, and in 2006 completed a master’s degree in the field of logistics and global supply chains at City College Thessaloniki as part of the Sheffield University – England.
During his career he has worked on several international projects related to the promotion of logistics solutions and processes on the Macedonian market, after which he took over the position of Business development manager and later Branch manager of the Skopje branch of the Austrian logistics company Quehenberger Logistics in Macedonia.
Since 2012 Vlatko Bezoski is a visiting professor at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University “American College” – Skopje. In parallel, he has participated in seminars and lectures in the field of logistics and global supply chains, organized by both domestic and international organizations.
As an external consultant he has participated in a number of international consulting projects focused on human resource development with special emphasis on the capacity building in transportation industry, as well projects related to the development of logistics infrastructure solutions whose focus was on strengthening the Macedonian economy as part of international trade.

He has experience working IPRs related projects/cases in Republic of North Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia, Albania and throughout Balkans. As part of the Macedonian negotiation team, Pepeljugoskiparticipated in the WTO accession process having in-depth knowledge on WTO TRIPS Agreement.
His previous employment activities extend fromAssistant Minister and Deputy Director of the State office for IP, to participant in bilateral and international negotiations with the WIPO member states and the accession of North Macedonia to the EU. Valentin Pepeljugoski is alsoa full-time professor in the field of IPRs, competition law, etc. He is author of many university textbooks, as well as numerous scientific and research international papers. He also took part in many seminars, conferences, symposiums.

dr.sc. Vedran Ceranić is a lecturer and former Vice Dean for International and Business Cooperation EFFECTUS – Entrepreneurial Studies – University of Zagreb, Trg J.F. Kennedy 2. Graduated from the Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb, study of political science and the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, study of law. From October 2011 to February 2014, he was employed as a trainee lawyer in the law firm Žurić i Partneri d.o.o. in Zagreb.
During his internship, he works in a number of legal areas (civil and commercial law, enforcement law, civil and non-litigation procedural law, constitutional law, public procurement). He passed the bar exam in May 2014 with a special commendation from the Examination Committee for his success in the bar exam. In September 2019, he received his doctorate cum laude from the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana. On the list of arbitrators in proceedings with and without international character before the Permanent Court of Arbitration of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce.
At EFFECTUS, he lectures on a number of private law courses (Fundamentals of Commercial Law, Company Law, Management of Capital Companies, Status Changes of Companies). Narrow areas of research interest are in the domain of commercial and company law and arbitration.
